RAWALPINDI: At least three Indian soldiers were killed as Pakistan Army responded to a ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) on Friday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

“Indian army today targeted innocent civilians in Gheekot and Mandal villages of Lipa sector where civilians were preparing for Friday prayers,” the ISPR said in a statement. “One young boy [was] martyred, four civilians injured.”

On Wednesday, the Pakistan Army killed five Indian troops in retaliatory fire after three people, including a serviceman, were martyred in an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Indian troops along the LoC.

Army, the communique added, effectively responded, killing three Indian soldiers and injuring many. “Three Indian posts [were also] destroyed,” it said.

Indian ceasefire violations (CFVs) continue despite facing loses of men and material inflicted by Pakistan Army’s response, the military’s media wing said.

The military expressed the resolve that it “stands by its innocent civil population and would continue to respond befittingly.”

On July 19, Pakistan summoned India’s deputy high commissioner to lodge a formal protest over another ceasefire violation by Indian forces, which resulted in the death of two civilians and left six others wounded.
