Lahore: Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Farooq Sattar has suspended the basic party membership of its Senator, Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh on Monday.
In a party consultation meeting, Farooq Sattar announced that the Senator had violated the party’s stance by voting in support of the amendment in the Political Parties Order 2002.
After the disqualification of the ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the Senate drafted an amendment to aid Nawaz in regaining Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz’s (PML-N) leadership.
Responding to a question, Sattar said that MQM-P supported Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) motion on the issue, but Ateeq voted for PML-N deliberately.
While talking to a private TV channel, Ateeq said that he had been unaware about PPP’s stance on the issue.
